I thank God and consider myself to be privileged to have been associated with Shri Shikshayatan School for so many years. I agree with Henry Adams “A teacher effects eternity, he can never tell where the influence ends.
      Gargi Bhattacharya

Shri Shikshayatan School taught me that knowledge is the most powerful weapon to change the world. It taught me how to fight odds, be optimistic and practice endurance. Truly speaking my school imbibed in me the ability to dream.

. I can still feel the care and love of my adorable teachers. An innocent child became a well behaved and responsible person only because of my “great school”. I shall always cherish the time spent there.

I feel grateful for every bit of this experience. Receiving First prize in academics, playing basketball and kabaddi, attending swimming classes are some of my best memories.

I firmly feel that none of us could have achieved anything without the contribution of our teachers. To others they may be just teachers, but to me, they are all heroes. Its only because of them that the school has always excelled everywhere, be it in academics, sports, or fine arts.

I was offered the huge opportunity to represent Shri Shikshayatan School at our partner school, Conisborough College, London, United Kingdom under the Global Curriculum Project aided by the British Council. When my name was announced, to be honest, I pinched myself to ensure I was not day dreaming

Out of all the wonderful moments I lived in SSY, the best memory I can recall was the excursion of 2012, to Jorasanko Thakurbari, when all students and teachers sat together and had lunch. It showed the kind of bond the teachers and students shared.

For me, Shikshayatan hasn’t been a just journey form KG to XII but a journey from a tiny kid to a young lady. A journey which taught me how to take my first independent step, how to value education, how to turn strangers into friends for life, how to face the failure and how to celebrate the success, how to never give up and how to always be hopeful, these are amongst innumerable learnings from the school which has made me what I am today

Shri Shikshayatan School has been my second home. From KG to my graduation, it has been the most precious sixteen years of my life. It has nurtured me to the person I am today. I’ve gained and learned so much in these years. Among all the other things, Shikshayatan has given me amazing friends who turned into my family

I have been a student of Shri Shikshayatan School since Kindergarten. I have seen my childhood and my adulthood in the same place and I have also seen the colour of the buildings and the classrooms changing. I cannot thank the teachers and the staff members of the school enough for what they have given me. Thank you, Shri Shikshayatan, for giving me everything and making me what I am today.

Now when I look back to my school days, I really feel very fortunate to have studied in normal conditions. I have so many fond memories with my lifelong friends around the fun-filled picnics, and excursions. We could never forget the amount of excitement we used to have while planning the Teachers’ Day. On 100 years of Shikshayatan Foundation, the umbrella of Shri Shikshayatan School, we feel extremely proud to be Yatanites

Shri Shikshayatan! The place where every moment different bonds bloom, new dreams are made. Even now when I am thinking about what to pen down, I am overwhelmed by all the memories. I don’t know if I can express my gratitude and love I feel for my teachers in this short write up. My teachers had played a big role in what I am today. The love and care I received from them are invaluable.

Just recalling them - Has a lot to say The beauty of the Teachers’ day The love for Children’s day The spirit on Sports day The fun memories of picnic day And for once we landed on Farewell day In so many possible ways, The priceless and the Most wonderful Were the school days. I wish the bell rings again I wish to reach on time For the morning assembly again I wish to dress well, Complete my work And get ready for School again To be in my second home With my school family And live in Shikshayatan Once again

Needless to say, for me, the term “SCHOOL” is synonymous to “HAVEN” because this is what Shikshayatan is for me---a sanctuary; nurturing, enriching, and encouraging young minds. Having spent thirteen long years in this institution, under the able guidance of my teachers and support from my peers, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I owe everything to my school. This temple of learning has not only taught me ways to celebrate my success, but has also made me resilient enough to face failures.

School remains to be an exceptionally cherished memory of mine. While in school if you have troubles and problems, there are teachers who will heal your deep sense of insecurity with words of reassurance. Every time you falter and doubt your self-worth, the school embraces you and you get a place to regain your confidence. From being a meek little girl, Shikshayatan has taught me how to be self-assertive and courageous in times of travails. Our sense of self and perception of others are hugely modelled on the teachings of our school and therefore, however much we grow distant from school; the school never leaves us apart.

I am currently pursuing MBBS from a government medical college in West Bengal and am also a recipient of the JBNSTS senior scholarship. The lessons that I learnt in school still continue to help me in life. Speaking in the assemblies helped me get rid of my stage fright. Attending the Visual and Performing Arts classes, helped me develop a keen interest in music and I can now play the guitar, the ukulele, and the keyboard. Participating in the interschool events, helped me develop better social skills. However, the most important value that I possess because of my school is, discipline and I think that it is an indispensable ingredient when it comes to success.

Even today, when I walk past the school, as if quite unconsciously, I stop for a moment or two, look up at the board with the words “Shri Shikshayatan School” etched on it, and smile. The smile still plays on in my lips, until I have walked quite a long way from there, and 11, Lord Sinha Road, becomes nothing but a misted existence.

Of all the memories, the one which never fails to bring a smile on our faces is that of the picnic to Nicco Park. The two overly excited and inordinately joyous kids of class two ended up having one of the scariest and funniest adventures on the trip. We were like two excited monkeys who were fearlessly ready to give a try to every ride. This journey of mischief, fun, nostalgia, and learning went on for thirteen incredible years. Shri Shikshayatan School has given us so much to cherish for a life time. We will forever remain in debt of this awesome place for making us who we are today.

I had not felt so full and so happy in my entire life ever before. It was as if the Universe had felt the need to compensate for all the forthcoming difficult days ahead. My heart felt like a box full of joy, except that it kept expanding every second — and it was only for a split second that I thought — what if it exploded? But, honestly, I couldn’t care less. The memory of the beautiful day spent at Shri Shikshayatan School makes me teary eyed even now. You must be wondering what’s so special about a regular PT period? Yes, I don’t know either.
