Shri Shikshayatan School

The Glorious Journey of
Shri Shikshayatan School

Shri Shikshayatan School, the dream child of Shikshayatan Foundation, has earned acclaim over the years to become a premier educational institution in India for a girl child. In its quest for excellence over the years, the school has won many laurels at the local, the state, the national and the international levels. These awards have been moments of glory and pride. Undoubtedly, these achievements also reflect the ethos of our school, its diverse yet unifying culture and its ability to contribute towards intellectual and moral growth of its pupils.
Amongst the plethora of awards which Shri Shikshayatan School has received in its journey, the most invaluable for me was the ‘Telegraph School of the Year’ award received in 2018. The excitement and euphoria in school after receiving the award is a memory to cherish forever. The award brought validation for all those who have been associated with the institution and helped in instilling greater confidence. However, we believe the recognition is merely an applause of our discipline, the reward for work well done and an opportunity to do better in times to come. The accolades are an affirmation of the progress of the School and at the same time they motivate us to push the boundaries a little more in order to contribute greater to the global society.
As the school marches ahead amidst all challenges, striving to fulfill the dreams of its founders, the words of Maya Angelou hold true for Shri Shikshayatan School
“Just like moons and like suns
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high
Still I’ll rise.”

``Marching Together``

An interaction with the other stakeholders in Shri Shikshayatan School…how they see their workplace….
When we walk together, we can cover miles. Shri Shikshayatan School has always taken every stakeholder in this journey, creating opportunities for all to be happy and proud when they come to their workplace.
Way back in 2017, the members of Group D Staff were trained to put up a skit based on Sukumar Ray’s popular limericks from Abol Tabol as a part of the May Day celebration. The members thoroughly enjoyed the programme, students were mesmerised and we decided that this would be a part of our celebration every year. Our staff members were trained to speak in English, learn new things and enjoy the work they do. Scan the QR code given aside to see the full interview of our Group D Staff with the Headmistress of the Junior Section, Mrs. Poushali Mukherjee. She is in conversation with Ms. Dolly De, Peon in the Primary and Shri Santosh Nayek, Cleaning Staff in the Office.

“The journey is its own reward”
-Homer

Shri Shikshayatan School was established with initiatives taken by renowned social reformers of the time and others who were in favour of imparting education to girls, particularly from the Marwari Community. There was a need to popularize the concept of educating young girls, empowering them and meet the growing need for providing quality education. With this vision in mind, a small but progressive school, Marwari Balika Vidyalaya was founded by Shree Sitaram Seksaria under the stewardship of Shree Ghanshyam Das Birla and Shree Jugalkishore Birla, along with a body of enlightened members of the Rajasthani community settled in Kolkata. Later the Shri Shikshayatan Campus brought in students from Central and South Calcutta based Marwari Communities too. Over the years it has opened its doors, to all eligible girl students irrespective of caste, creed, religion or language.
“Be the change you want to see” Shri Shikshayatan School has gone through many changes in the last 25 years that I have been associated with. When I had joined, the school was under WBSSCE. In 2014, the school changed its affiliation to CBSE. Over the years, we have grown from strength to strength. The school has seen changes in culture, academic performance, co-curricular activities, and has developed social recognition. This has been possible because of the farsightedness of its leaders, commitment of the teaching faculty and the eagerness to perform by the students.
